Scott Glaser spent 25 years in advertising as creative director, art director and copywriter at various ad agencies in New York City and Boston.

When the thrill of advertising was no more, around 2000, he turned to fine art. Painting became his medium of choice. Flexibility of style and concept opened corporate doors at Hyatt; Kate Spade; China Merchants Bank; Perkins Eastman Architects; Fisher Development and the city of Stamford, Connecticut. And the private sector included commissions from New York City, Boston, Greenwich, Palm Beach and Paradise Valley.

His mission has been to create what he sees as precisely as possible using the centuries-old grid system. Regardless of style, medium, substrate or concept, using the grid allows him to recreate the image found in his reference photos.

Currently, Glaser is working on a series of portraits honoring the champions of the Black Lives Matter movement and past civil rights activists.

His medium for these portraits is an innovative use of fabric bandages. These portraits, “bandaics” (bandage mosaics) symbolize the obvious pain and suffering this population has endured and, more colloquially, the band-aids illustrate what little has been done to end this scourge.

Glaser’s connection to this narrative is a very personal one. He was born in Newark, New Jersey during a tumultuous time in U.S. history and the civil rights movement. He was 14 during the 1967 riots and witnessed horrific acts of violence. These atrocities left an indelible mark. In recent years, the hate crimes fueled by racism have brought these memories back to the surface. These portraits have become an outlet for Glaser and a way to pay homage to these persevering individuals and the legacies they have left with us.
